Top Ten 80’s Rock Songs by Christy Gissendaner

I love the 80’s. I love everything about it. The big hair. The fashion. But most of all, I adore the music. I was only 12 when the 1990 arrived, but my taste in music definitely stayed in the Decade of Excess. In celebration of my new release, which focuses on a hot but tortured rock star hero, here’s my Top Ten list of Raddest Eighties Rock Songs, in no particular order of favorite, because let’s face it. No one can pick their favorite eighties song.

  1. Every Breath You Take by The Police – So it may not be the symbolic “rock” song, but this creepy stalker hit became an anthem of the 80’s.
  2. Tainted Love by Soft Cell – This electronica pop rock song remains one of my favorites, even regaining popularity in a jeans commercial in later decades.
  3. Pour Some Sugar On Me by Def Leppard – Big hair alert. Def Leppard rocked out with this party rock anthem.
  4. Come On Eileen by Dexys Midnight Runners – Ah…one of my favorites of all time. I never knew the actual lyrics until I was over thirty, but I sure sang the heck out of this, misheard lyrics and all.
  5. Don’t You Forget About Me by Simple Minds – Hit song from The Breakfast Club. What more is there to say?
  6. Beat It by Michael Jackson – Self-avowed MJ freak right here.
  7. Welcome To The Jungle by Guns N Roses – Axl says it best. “Welcome to the jungle. We take it day by day. If you want it you’re gonna bleed, but it’s the price to pay. And you’re a very sexy girl that’s very hard to please.” Take that, Fifty Shades.(drops mic and walks away)
  8. In The Air Tonight by Phil Collins – Oh man, do I rock out to this song! I play air drums. Bang my head. Sing at the top of my lungs. Best thing? The husband does it with me. Okay, I lied. I may have an ultimate favorite eighties song after all…
  9. With Or Without You by U2 – What list is complete without Bono?
  10. You Give Love A Bad Name by Bon Jovi – The things I would do to Jon Bon Jovi. I can’t say them here on the basis they may be illegal.

So what do ya’ll think? Did some of your favorites make my list? I have tons more, but this sampling covers various rock genres that made my adolescence rock.

And speaking of rock…check out my latest release. Flashback is already available for download at All Romance and Barnes&Noble and on pre-sale at Amazon.

It’s 1985 and Percival Vane, the lead singer of Jericho, is the hottest thing in music. He has it all – the fans, the money, and a gig he adores – but underneath the smoke and flashing lights, he’s learned to bury his feelings. Battling lifelong addiction, he covers up the pain by pouring his heart into his music, penning lyrics that defy imagination and leave his fans breathless for more. Until the words stop coming.

Betsy Walker knows the dirty little secrets of life on the road. She was just such a secret, daughter of a popular 1960’s folk singer unwilling to compromise her career by raising a child. Betsy was weaned on glitter and disco, rocked to sleep by the strum of guitars. One thing she knows, she never wants to live the life her father set for her.

The absolute last thing Betsy wants is to fall for the lead singer of Jericho, who’s had more panties thrown at him on stage than most women wear in a lifetime. On summer break from college, she agrees to accompany her father on tour with Jericho and discovers beneath the guyliner and long hair is a songwriter who’s been misunderstood, molded into something he doesn’t want to be.

Can she help him find himself? Or will they both become victims of Percival’s quick rise to the top of the charts?

A Matter of View

2015-01-27 09.13.43

It snowed last night, just a little, but will probably be gone within hours. No, this is not a black and white picture although it seems to contain little more than shades of gray

This morning, as I considered the dusting of snow we had last a night—a rarity, by the way, for my Eastern Tennessee home—I searched for my morning mountain fix. The fog, or perhaps snow falling in the distance, prevented me from seeing the Great Smoky Mountains I’ve grown to need every morning along with my coffee.

For me, the snow was nothing, but for those who have never lived anywhere else, it was a reason for near panic. The local news showed pictures of empty bread shelves and milk coolers. My Internet news-feed featured similar scenes in New York City where residents prepared for several feet of the white stuff, not inches.

Growing up south of Buffalo, New York, I know snow. I lived with it every winter until after I graduated from college. Learned to drive in it. Winter often started in October and an April snowstorm was to be expected. It just happened, every year, and you dealt with it.

2014-10-24 18.48.28-1

My usual morning view this time of year as the sun breaks over the Smokies. It will eventually burn off the fog rising from the river that runs from the mountains you see in the distance.

It’s a matter of perspective, and experience.

The same could be said for writing.

Each of us brings our own, unique experiences and viewpoints to everything we write and read. Just the other day I wrote a scene that came so easily to me. It was about one of my women assassins, from my upcoming Black Swan series, who was finishing a mission in a Middle Eastern country. She couldn’t wait to shed the abaya she’d been forced to wear in the Muslim nation. Grace, my character, had to follow a male operative around her plane for flight pre-check, because even driving a car was a punishable offense, flying a plane would get her killed.

As a feminist, I felt her oppression, her need to be free once again.

Again, is the key word here. Grace knew what it was to have freedom of choice. She’d grown up in America where we women can do, and be, whatever we want. We learn from a young age about making choices, because we have them.

And it’s not just women. Last year I almost got my friend killed. Yes. Murdered. Executed. He’d asked me for a copy of my first book when it was released. I sent it to him. In Afghanistan. He had to hide it the whole time he was there. Because my book, Explosive Combination, has explicit sex scenes and a strong female heroine, it is banned in many countries.

So, like my character, Grace, who knew she would discard the abaya, and fly her jet and team of women home, I know the snow will melt, and I’ll see my mountains again in a day or two.

But there are women in this world who will never have the perspective those of you reading this do. They will never know the choices we take for granted. They can’t make the choice to read:

  • KaLyn Cooper’s hot, sexy book Christmas in Cancun
  • Lynn Lorenz’s Bayou Des Enfants, a male/male 4+ flames
  • Vanessa North’s Double Upinvolving two men who fall in love with each other
  • Aliens having more sex than you in Monette Michaels’ Prime Claiming, a Prime Chronicles short story,  erotic scifi romance
  • About Jianne Carlo’s Prymal Passion, a SEAL paranormal suspense that’s 4 flames HOT
  • Perhaps Rosanna Leo’s The Stand-In where the male and female have sex before marriage ~slaps face OMG!~ (just kidding, more like ooo-yeah!)
  • You could choose Becca Jameson’s Bound to be Tested,Emergence series Book 3, a BDSM menage m/f/f and 4 flames smokin’ hot
  • Seducing Kate by Emilia Mancini, a cougar/cub erotica and comes in with a 4 on the heat level (who caught the pun?)
  • Who can resist a Cowboy Redeemed by Parker Kincade, a contemporary western romance, M/F, 3.5 flames. 🙂 that’s hot and explicit
  • Robin Danner’s paranormal, slightly hot, shifter romance

We can choose to buy these books and read these books. We bring to these stories our emotional and life experiences, whether it’s as a reader or a writer.

I thank God every day, that I was born in the United States of America, free to make my own choices….and to write hot, sexy romance novels.

~~stepping down off my Rant box now~~

By the way, in the time it’s taken me to write this blog, all the snow has melted and the clouds are lifting. I can see the first ridge of foothills. 🙂

How You Can Help by Christy Gissendaner

Friday the 13th. Cool beans. Aren’t I lucky? Usually I have something witty and silly to say, but today I’m coming at you with a serious discussion on what you, as readers and friends, can do to help out us lowly authors.

With a recent release, I’ve spent countless hours at my computer blogging, posting, and pretty much haunting the social media sites. Why do I do this, you ask? It’s simple. I want to sell books. Yes, I know. Sales aren’t everything, but they are nice. A sort of monetary pat on the back, if you will.

With countless books under my belt, and the aforementioned countless hours spent promoting said books, there comes the times when I ask, “Is it worth it?” Are the hours away from my family worth the joy I get from being a published author?

I’m going to be completely honest here. My sales suck. I mean, literally, truly, horribly suck. How bad, you ask? I’m going to tell you. In one quarter, I sold 153 copies. 153 copies. 21 books available. I’ll let you do the math, keeping in mind that at least two of these books were brand new spanking releases coming in under 5 copies each. A book-selling machine I am not.

So why do publishers keep offering me contracts? Why waste their time with someone who probably hasn’t even made enough to pay the cover artist? I’m hoping it’s because they enjoy my writing, but it’s probably more along the lines of, “Nice gal, let’s just use her as filler space.” As a business-minded person myself, I wouldn’t blame them for not wanting to risk another chance with me. But maybe, just maybe, they see something in me and keep offering, waiting for the day (like I am) that I’ll finally have a hit.

So here’s where you come in. Yes, you. The visitors that come to our blog every day, even if you may not comment. Word of mouth is a powerful tool. It has rocketed more authors to the top of the lists than any paid advertisement will do. You, dear readers, have to power to make or break an author. All it takes is a kind review, a dropped word or two to your friends, a simple post on social media, and one sale can snowball into twenty, one hundred, hell even a thousand!

Have you read a book lately that you really, really liked? Did you tell anyone about it? Did you leave a review? I promise that’s all it takes. Five minutes of your time and you’ll make an author very happy. We write because we love it. We publish our works because we have faith others will love it too.

We’ve done our part, put our heart and souls on paper for all the world to see, and now it’s up to you. I challenge everyone who is a fan of Love, Lust, and Laptops to tell the world how awesome our authors are. It’ll be the best early Christmas gift you could give!

And don’t forget, any comment on the blog today will automatically be entered into my contest for the “Meet, Mate, and Be Merry” book tour celebrating the release of Unmasking the Wolf. You can find the tour line-up and book trailer at my website. The more you comment at any of the tour stops, the more chances you have to win a $10 Amazon gift card!

And, don’t forget, start spreading the word!

Love In The Cards – The Star by Christy Gissendaner

The party was already in full swing.

Teetering on hooker heels, Eve Montgomery pushed her way through the crowd. Several partygoers stopped to gape at her costume … or lack thereof. A mix-up at the costume shop forced her to make do. Instead of the leafy bikini she’d ordered, she’d ended up with only a fake plastic snake and a shiny red plastic apple. Not very much of a costume.

Luckily she was an artist, if a bit of an underpaid one, and a stroke of ingenuity led her to paint on her costume. It was a very Playboy bunny thing to do. Although she’d sworn never to take her clothes off again to make a buck, five hundred dollars for a few hours of dancing was an offer she couldn’t refuse.

Unfortunately it was hard as hell to paint one’s own backside, so she’d had to call in a favor from a friend. Shazzer was a decent painter, more than capable of slapping on some green paint and glitter to cover Eve’s ass.

“Knock ’em dead, girl.” With a wave, Shaz headed for her own cage.

Eve gazed at the other three cages, seeking the one she was supposed to dance in. With a groan, she caught sight of a very familiar male body cavorting a few feet above her head.

Adam London was the bane of her existence. He lived a few doors down from her and made no secret of the fact he found her attractive. When she’d first come to New Orleans after hanging up her Vegas showgirl heels, he’d tried to get her to dance for his company. She’d gone to a few performances. The productions were much too sexy and avant-garde for her liking. Tits and ass had made her career, but she doubted she had the acting chops needed to join The London Company.

The party’s host had sent out invitations to all partygoers, even the staff. She’d received a torn half of a tarot card, The Star. Upon arriving at the party, the dancers had been ordered to find their match for the night. What sort of fucked up luck had made Adam draw her card? She wasn’t into astrology or voodoo mumbo jumbo, and she was sure something other than Fate was responsible for Adam getting the matching half of her card.

The cage was tiny, barely four feet wide. There was no hope of avoiding him in such close quarters. Gritting her teeth, she climbed the steps leading to the cage and slid inside.

Adam whistled after a full six seconds of checking her out. “Sexiness.”

His British accent, combined with a firmly muscled body, was the stuff dreams were made of. Just not her dreams. She’d been burned way too many times in the past to fall for a handsome face.

She put a hand against his chest … his sculpted pecs! … and made him keep his distance. “Listen, London. I’m only here to work. Keep your hands to yourself, capisce?”

His bluer-than-blue eyes twinkled. “Adam and Eve, huh? Very apropos. Are you here to tempt me to sin, darling?”

“You could only be so lucky,” she said with a laugh.

Turning away from him, she wrapped her hands around the bars of the cage and sent a sultry smile toward the crowd. A man in a mask and feathered wings caught her eye. Then his gaze moved to man behind her and lingered. Figures.

Huffing, she glanced over her shoulder. “Seriously, dude. Is there anyone immune to your good looks?”

“So, you do admit I’m good-looking?” Adam’s hand slid around her waist and pulled her toward him.

The feel of his tight body against her bare skin sent shivers racing down her spine. He bent down, his cheek resting on the mass of upswept curls pinned at the back of her head. “These people came to see a show. I can’t have you dancing way over there.”

She arched her spine, which brought her bottom into shocking contact with his crotch. Only a tiny slip of felt leaves and imitation fur covered his manhood. Gasping at his size, she tried to move away.

He clamped his hand against her hip and held her in place. “That’s it, darling. Keep that up and the crowd just might be fooled into thinking you like me.”

Truth be told, she liked him a little too much. Not that she’d ever admit it to him or anyone. Adam was so far out of her league, it was laughable. While she struggled to make ends meet, rooming with Shazzer and two other girls in one of four units created out of an older house, Adam owned a successful dance company and a large, beautiful home.

“Loosen up,” he whispered. “Just dance. This is your favorite song, isn’t it?”

She didn’t even question how he knew. The catchy beat of the latest Robin Thicke song poured through the speakers. No matter how many changes she went through in life, one thing remained constant. Her love of dancing had carried her through some really rough patches. Although her dream of Julliard had been cut short by a torn Achilles, she’d never given up. Instead of a career in ballet, she’d made a name for herself in Vegas. Not exactly the life her parents had dreamed for her to have, but a successful one nonetheless.

That was until the Vegas revue’s married producer had hit on her one too many times backstage. His wife had caught him attempting to kiss her and that had been the end of her career. Names like homewrecker and whore were hurtful, especially when she was innocent. Not that anyone had believed her.

She’d left Vegas behind and returned home to New Orleans to pursue her second hobby, painting. Unfortunately, it didn’t pay the bills. She supplemented her income with waitressing, but it was still hard to make ends meet. The offer of five hundred dollars had come at just the right time. She’d been worried about making her share of the rent.

So here she was, shaking her ass for all she was worth and pretending the man holding her didn’t turn her on. And damn, was she ever. A costume of paint couldn’t hide her response. Her nipples puckered. The green paint and twirling vines were no match for her body’s reaction.

“When this is over, come home with me.”

His audacity made her gasp. “Is sex all you think about?”

He spun her around and dipped her. He brought her body up. His sexy smile made her knees go weak. “Who said anything about sex?”

Pressed tightly against his oh-so-drool-worthy chest, she struggled to remember the reasons why she shouldn’t get involved with him. Not a single one came to mind. “It’ll never work between us.”

“Why?” He calmly stared at her, his eyes daring her to tell the truth.

“I’m not the type of girl you think I am.”

A dark look crossed his face. “I’m probably not what you think either.”

She shivered at his expression. The noise of the music and the crowd seemed to dim. Staring at him, an irresistible attraction pulled her. Why did she keep fighting it?

After sixty minutes of dancing, Eve took a break. Adam, who hadn’t even broken a sweat, joined her. Carefully making her way through the sea of guests, she went out a side door that led onto the verandah. For October, the weather was pleasantly mild, which was a good thing considering her lack of clothing.

“The party seems to be a success,” Adam remarked. He propped a hip on the railing and turned to face her.

She kept her distance, stretching her arms and legs to relieve the tired muscles. After an hour of dancing with him, her body hummed with unfulfilled desire. He was sex personified, lounging in his barely-there loincloth.

Moonlight peeped through the overhanging branches and illuminated Adam’s face. A glimmer of white flashed as he smiled.

She blinked. “Are you wearing fangs?”

His smile faded, only to be replaced by an intense look. “Why do you ask?”

She took a step forward, curiosity and an undeniable pull making her gravitate in his direction. “No reason.”

Eve peered at him and wondered if exhaustion had made her imagine the pointy teeth. He smiled again, his canines perfectly human-shaped. Despite the easy smile, his eyes remained guarded.

How could she have missed it? Adam was a freaking vampire.

Everything made sense now. His ageless skin. His seemingly inexhaustible energy. The lack of perspiration. Even her undeniable attraction to him. For centuries, the women in her family had become entangled with vampires, some sort of curse the Montgomery females suffered.

“I’ll be damned,” she whispered.

Adam straightened and reached for her. “What’s wrong? You look like you’ve seen a ghost.”

Judging from the cemetery across the street, it was quite possible a spirit or two lingered around the mansion. But right now the only paranormal creature she was concerned with stood less than three feet away. “I’ve never seen one of you up close.”

“One of me?” He frowned. His accent grew more pronounced.

She lifted her hand and touched his arm. Curiously warm, as though blood still moved within his veins. Was it possible she was mistaken and he was merely human after all? Her fingertips tingled where their skin met. She had to be right. “You’re a vampire.”

He moved swiftly and clamped a hand over her mouth. “Are you crazy? You can’t go around blurting out nonsense.” He glanced around as if he were worried someone had overheard her.

She tugged his hand away. There was no one but them on the verandah. “It’s not nonsense. You should’ve told me.”

Resignation appeared. “And risk scaring you off?”

Why wasn’t she scared? She should be. Shouldn’t she? “My family has an odd sort of … history with vamps.”

“Really?” Disbelief colored his expression. “What sort of history?”

A blush tinged her cheeks. “I can’t believe I’m going to tell you this.” She put her hands over her eyes and winced. “Both my grandmother and great-grandmother had vampire lovers.”

“I’m intrigued. What happened to them?”

She lowered her hands and shrugged. “They ended up marrying normal men.”

“So, does this mean I have a shot with you after all?”

She chuckled at the hot look he sent her way. “Keep dreaming, Romeo.”

He moved closer. Bending down, he brushed a kiss across her cheek. “Why break with tradition? You know you want to.”

She did. She really, really did. And not just because he was a vampire. She wanted to know what it was like to be with him … with Adam.

Shaking off the lust swamping her, she glanced at the door they’d exited. “We should get back. Break is over.”

She turned to leave. Adam’s whisper of “Coward” haunted her.

* * * *

Several hours later, long after the party guests had left, Eve lingered in the cage. The other dancers had collected their pay and left a few minutes before. A pink and gray dawn peeped through the windows. It was time for her to go, but she sat in the cage and examined the torn half of the card she’d been given. The Star. The image was of a kneeling woman grasping two water urns. Supposedly the card’s meaning offered hope or possibility. Speaking of possibility…

Had Adam already left?

No sooner had she thought of him than he appeared. He leaned inside the cage and hovered over her. “Do you need a ride?”

She’d ridden to the party with Shazzer, who’d ended up leaving with her dancing partner. Not wanting to be a third wheel, Eve had decided to call a cab instead. “I’ll be fine.”

“Don’t be ridiculous. We live on the same street.” He took her hand and hauled her out of the cage. “I promise not to bite.”

A glimpse of fang appeared. She narrowed her eyes in suspicion. “Funny.”

“I thought so.” His fangs retracted as he gave her a slow, sexy smile.

She picked up her bag. A T-shirt and a pair of jeans were stuffed inside. Although she hated to go out in her painted costume, the thought of ruining her favorite pair of jeans was worse. “I’m afraid I didn’t think this costume all the way through.”

Adam’s gaze moved down her body, lingering on her green-tinted breasts and hips. “I can’t say I mind.”

“Of course you wouldn’t.” She rolled her eyes. “I don’t want to ruin your car seat though.”

“You won’t. I have a towel in the trunk.” Looping his arm through hers, he escorted her outside and to his sleek black sports car.

The ride home was mostly silent. When he pulled up in front of his large house, she didn’t question him. She knew what he wanted. The only question was whether she was prepared to give it to him. Not wanting to barge in on Shazzer and her male guest, it wouldn’t hurt for her to visit with Adam for a little bit.

“I’m not sleeping with you,” she pointed out as he opened her door.

Early morning sunlight gilded his dark hair. She’d learned from her grandmother that the whole no sunlight thing was a myth. Thank goodness. The last thing she wanted was to see him burned to a crisp in his driveway.

He seemed amused. “Sleeping is the last thing on my list right now.”

She strolled into his house, pausing briefly to admire the elegant furnishings. What in the world was she doing in Adam’s house, practically butt naked, at six o’clock in the morning? Pushing aside her reservations, she moved toward the living room. Then she remembered the paint. No way was she sitting on his plush white leather sofa.

“Would you like a shower?”

The sound of his voice directly behind her made her jump. “You just want to get me naked.”

He winked. “Of course.”

She looked down at the paint covering her breasts. Sweat and hours of dancing had smeared it. She looked a mess. “I suppose a shower would be nice.”

“Follow me.”

The bathroom was gorgeous. She ignored the king-sized bed in the room they passed through. It had to be the master.

“Here you go. I’ll go get your bag.” He handed her a fluffy white towel and then left her alone in the massive marble-lined bathroom.

The water ran green for several minutes as she scrubbed at the paint. Sudsing up her hair and body, she washed the remainder of the glitter away. The expensive shampoo and soap softened her skin, even though it made her smell like a dude. The enticing scents of citrus and sandalwood reminded her of Adam.

After she’d showered and dried off, she cracked open the door. “Adam?”

He entered the room, carrying a small pile of clothing. He dropped her shirt and jeans on the bed and stared until she felt self-conscious. He must’ve taken a bath in another bathroom. Gone were his costume and the faint traces of glitter that had transferred from her body to his during their dancing. Nylon shorts were all he wore, leaving his delectable chest bare.

Gripping the towel around her body with one hand, she patted her damp hair. “What’s wrong? Did I miss some paint?”

“No.” He strode forward. Nothing but mere inches separated their bodies. The heat in his eyes consumed her. Passion, desire, whatever synonym she could think of, flared to life.

She wanted to be with him.

Opening the door fully, she stepped across the threshold and fully into his bedroom. Her fingers curled into the soft cotton and slowly undid the knot she’d tied across her breasts.

Adam grew quiet, his gaze locked on her chest. She opened the towel, baring her body. Without missing a beat, he stepped forward and wrapped his arms around her waist. The towel dropped to the ground as she clung to his shoulders.

The kiss was hot and openmouthed, everything she’d dreamed it could be.

Nothing mattered but skin and sensation as she glided closer. Broad shoulders, firm biceps, tight pecs. She explored his body with the palms of her hands, memorizing every part of his upper body.

Adam did the same as he traced his hands over her breasts and waist. Then he slipped his fingers lower, seeking out the warmth between her legs. She gasped. Her hips moved in tandem with his questing fingers.

She slid her hand down and palmed the heavy weight of his cock through the nylon he wore. She curled her fingers around his length and slowly stroked up and down. Adam dropped his head onto her shoulder and groaned. A second later, she felt the tiny prick of his fangs on her neck. Her knees went weak.

Sweeping her into his arms, he carried her to the massive bed and placed her upon it. She sank into the feather-soft mattress. Sweetly scented sheets and the intoxicating feel of him covering her body made her mind spin wildly out of control. What was she doing? Was she really about to have sex with Adam?

Oh, fuck yes. Nothing short of an atomic bomb could make her leave his bed now.

“I’ve dreamed of this. Dreamed of you,” Adam whispered as he cupped her breasts. He lowered his head, his tongue flicking out to lave one nipple. His fangs scratched the tender surface, but not enough to draw blood.

Would he drink from her? The thought intrigued her more than it scared her. She’d overheard her grandmother say that giving her blood to her vampire was better than any orgasm she’d ever had.

Adam moved lower and traced a path down her belly with his wicked tongue and then further south. She held her breath as he gently parted her pussy lips and rolled his tongue across her clit.

“Holy shit.” Her fists curled into the sheets in an effort to keep from screaming.

He lapped at her sex, his tongue teasing all the sensitive spots around and inside her opening. Moving her hips restlessly, she yearned for more. She was close to coming when he turned his head and sank his sharp fangs into her thigh. He sucked and she felt it all the way to her toes.

“Oh. Ohhh!”

He fingered her clit as he drank from her thigh. The sensation of her blood moving through her veins and the tickle of his fingers sent her over the edge. Crying out, she came hard. Harder than she’d ever dreamed possible.

She was limp and trembling from her climax as he lifted his head. His fangs glinted, a dark look of bloodlust in his eyes. With disheveled hair and flushed cheeks, he was sex personified.

“More,” she whispered. “I want more.”

Adam smiled. The sight of his sharp canines sent a delicious shiver down her body.

In a blur of motion too quick for her eyes to track, he moved off the bed. He came to a stop beside the bed and shoved off his shorts. Adam was larger than any of her previous sexual partners. A thrill of anticipation shot through her.

Climbing back into bed, he covered her body with his. His hard, lean physique fit perfectly against her soft dips and curves. It was as if they’d been made for each other. Perhaps they had been. Who knew what sort of odd magic was at work?

Softly kissing her lips, he nudged her chin up until she met his gaze. The emotion in his blue eyes made her suddenly feel like weeping. “Tell me you won’t regret this.”

It was eerie how well he knew her. With most of her other lovers, she’d known it was a mistake to sleep with them. If he’d asked her the same question thirty minutes ago, her answer would have been different. But now, she knew it was the right thing to do.

“I want to be with you.” Her heart melted as he threaded their fingers together. “I won’t regret it.”

He kissed her again. A bit of tongue came into play and soon she was breathless from the dizzying effect. His cock moved against her mound. His naked cock. “Condom,” she gasped out.

“It’s not necessary, but I can wear one if you prefer. I can’t impregnate you or transfer disease.” He planted tiny kisses to the corner of her mouth. “Your call.”

If there was no possibility of harm, she saw no reason to use one. “Forget I asked.”

He re-positioned himself between her legs. Easing his steely cock inside her, he urged her to wrap one leg around his waist. She gasped as he slid inside. The width of his cock stretched her wide open. A delicious tingling came from their joining.

At first, he went slowly. It took her some time to adjust to his size. Once she had, the tension left her body and she clung to him. She felt boneless, all her senses engaged by the sensation of him inside her.

“The things I want to do to you,” he whispered into her ear. “You can’t imagine the many ways I want to fuck you.”

She came apart at his naughty words. Crying out, her hips lifted and cradled his cock. His thrusts came harder and faster. The bed frame knocked against the wall as he fucked her. She clung to his shoulders, the thin line between pain and pleasure driving her close to the edge again. Was it possible for her to come a third time?

With a harsh groan, Adam reached his peak. He thrust into her and held still as pulses moved up and down the length of his shaft. The tiny reverberations nearly made her come, but her orgasm remained just out of reach. Her body was too exhausted.

Adam’s gaze flicked to her face. Worry etched across his handsome features. “I’m sorry. I didn’t hurt you, did I?”

“Don’t you dare apologize for the best sex of my life.” She cuddled against him as he moved to lie next to her.

“The best?” His eyebrow cocked. “I’ll be sure to top it next time.”

“Can’t wait.” She yawned, suddenly tired despite her desire to remain awake.

Adam tenderly kissed her forehead. “Get some sleep. I’ll be here when you wake up.”

“Hope and possibility,” she murmured against his hard chest.

“Hmmm?” His arms tightened around her.

“The tarot card. I think I like our fortune.” Closing her eyes, she went to sleep, dreaming of the endless possibilities to be had with one sexy vampire.

Colons, and I’m not talking grammar

Howdy, ya’ll! We made it to another Friday, which means it’s my turn! Today, I’m talking seriousness…well, as serious as my silly self can get. Many of you may remember my recent bout with diverticulitis. A lifetime of unhealthy eating landed me getting that most unsavory of procedures, a colonoscopy, at the ripe age of 35. Good news is I’m hopefully in the clear. Bad news, I have to drink yucky Metamucil. (And I thought Fiber One cereal was bad enough. Shudder.)

So how did the cavity search go? Amazingly well. It all started Sunday afternoon, with me drinking what seemed like twenty gallons of liquid, which I can only compare to salt water. As I’m not fond of salt, it was quite nasty. I did as the doc asked, starved myself practically all day, drank the nasty stuff, and waited for the explosion. And waited…and waited…and waited some more. I won’t go into all the details, but needless to say I had a very mild afternoon. Not nearly what I imagined would happen. Thank goodness!

Monday morning, the hubby and I loaded into the car and drove 1 hour to the surgery center. At the suggestion of our own Becca Jameson, I decided to undergo the procedure sans sedation. The registration clerk looked at me like I’d grown two heads when I proudly stated I wanted no sedation. She threatened me with a greater risk of bleeding. I called shenanigans, smiled, nodded, and refused to sign the sedation paperwork.

Next up came the “holding” room. I got an IV in my wrist. I’m a very hard stick, so I’m glad it only took one attempt even though the wrist has got to be the absolute worst place ever for an IV. And this is coming from a gal who got put to sleep with a needle in her freaking thumb! I sat there, shivered, waited, shivered some more. The anesthesia doc came by to try to talk me into his services. I politely declined. He questioned my reasoning to refusing. My “I’ve got to go back to work after this” didn’t seem to do the trick. Finally I told him the real truth, “Dude, I just wanna see what my guts look like.” I was finally given the okay to proceed without the drugs. Meanwhile, my temp is hovering around the 94 degree mark as I rock my buttless gown.

Here comes the fun part. I go into the surgical room, totally not expecting that I’m fixing to be hooked to oxygen and heart machines. About freaked out for a second. The oxygen cannula thingies always make me feel claustrophobic and I was told to focus on my breathing, just like I was having a baby. Let me tell ya…if we were talking childbirth, this chick would’ve been screaming for whatever painkiller they had! I’m brave, but not stupid.

I’m told to lay on my side and then I’m draped with a few towels. The nurse tells me “Don’t worry. You’ll be covered.” I didn’t have the heart to tell her that the doc seeing my bare ass is the least of my worries. Once you’ve had three babies naturally, your sense of modesty goes right out the window. The first step is being pumped full of gas. I must admit, this was my favorite part. I became a human air balloon. You can literally feel your guts expanding. It tickles a little.

Next step, is the camera. As my glasses had been taken, I had to squint really hard to see the screen, but I caught a few glimpses of my guts. A polyp was found and just as I’m getting ready to panic, the doc tells me it looks fine. There’s some more plundering around my insides, nothing more than a flutter here and there, and a second polyp is found. Once again, it was proclaimed to look normal. Less than 10 minutes, and I’m being wheeled to recovery.  Immediately my husband is suspicious of my good humor. My response of “that was pretty dang cool” obviously isn’t the norm.

So what have I learned from all this? Umm…I suppose I should say I’ll eat more fiber and get healthier. But in reality, what I learned was the colon is a pretty dang interesting organ. In five years, when I go for my follow-up, I’m totally doing it all over again.

Proud to be an American

It started off like any other morning. I was asleep, having worked late the night before at the hospital. It was a little before nine a.m. when my mom came in to wake me up, claiming a plane had flown into the World Trade Center. Needless to say, I didn’t believe her. I got out of bed, sans glasses, and stood in front of our widescreen television, squinting at the screen. I got the surprise of my life as I stood with my nose pressed to television just as the second plane struck.

I was literally speechless. I remember gasping, running to get my glasses, and then camping out on the couch for the next couple of hours. I recall getting goose-bumps as figures leapt from the windows, desperately trying to survive despite the horrible fall. I remember covering my mouth in horror as first one, and then the second tower fell, the disbelief as the Pentagon was attacked, the sadness as another plane fell from the sky, this time striking no building.

As an American, I was frightened for what next. As a human being, I cried for the needless loss of life. It was years, over ten in fact, before I would even scroll the list of victims and their ages. The thought that children were onboard haunted me. The families that suffered because of a small group and their crazed beliefs pain me still.

But like we always do, we rallied. The sense of American pride grew stronger. For one day, we were united. It’s that sense of unity I adore about our country. When attacked, we show a brave front.

Now I’m not going to get political. Needless to say I’m the last person you want to quiz on current events. But as the anniversary of 9/11 approaches and our country is faced with a decision to make war, I appeal to the masses. Let us be Americans, first and foremost. No matter what comes, our country is worth fighting for. Despite who you voted for, despite your affiliations, we belong to one of the greatest nations in the world. Be proud of where we’ve been. Be proud of where we’re going.

And above all, be an American.

I Like Big Butts – Robin Danner

Big girls need love too. Right?

Unfortunately it’s not very apparent in the romances I read growing up. As a plump pre-teen, I was one of the lucky ones. I had good friends and was “smart”. So I escaped most of the teasing that chubby kids often endure. Apparently I’m also intimidating…which makes many think twice before crossing me. But in actuality, I just have a “Who cares what people think?” kind of attitude. It’s served me well my entire life. Not to say I’m a Witch with a B or anything, but I pretty much say what I mean and mean what I say. (I’m also stubborn, but we’ll save that for another day.)

Back to the topic at hand. When you’re a romance writer who is…shall we say…a frequent shopper at Lane Bryant, you start to notice glaring oversights in the romance genre. Thankfully in recent years, there has been a boom in the BBW market. Me personally, I don’t think you should write a plus-sized heroine just for the sake of writing a plus-sized heroine. The character should make sense. And PUH-LEEZE don’t give me that hogwash about a heroine being 250 lbs and having NO insecurities whatsoever. I’ll be quick to call bullshit on that one. No one wants to be the chunky gal when they grow up. So give me a heroine with real-life insecurities that rises above them. How many of us have dreamed of being rail-thin with long blonde hair and big boobs? In my case, two out of three ain’t bad. ; )

I also have a problem with “plump” heroines being phrased as curvy or size 12. Come on! In the world today, that’s normal. I want a gal with some meat on her. Go big or go home, I say! Pun not intended, I swear.

Now before you start saying I’m a cold-hearted person, let me just preface this by saying I’m a very plump gal who proudly shops Lane Bryant, squeezes into size 26 jeans, and possesses embarrassing cellulite on her thighs. Do I still wear a bathing suit in public? Hell yes, I do! Do I still have the wee moment of insecurity when I remove my cover-up? You betcha. But at the end of the day, I look in the mirror and I’m proud of what I see. Sure, I may be perilously close to three hundred pounds, but I’m well-proportioned. My hair may need to be trimmed, but it’s a pretty strawberry blonde. I may be blind as a bat, but at least I’ve got cute hazel eyes. My ass can rival J.Lo’s….wait, who am I kidding? NOBODY’s ass rivals J. Lo’s (but it’s pretty damned close.) The point of what I’m saying…who cares if you’re overweight? Love you for you and rest assured that a hero will too.

**In celebration of big gals, my latest heroine is a BBW. Look for her story in The Princes Needed, the thrilling conclusion to The Princes series, coming soon to Liquid Silver Books.**

One Hot Knight!

Hi, everyone! It’s been a hectic week. On Monday, my new paranormal romance, One Hot Knight, released with Entangled Covet. I’m in the middle of a book tour, so I’ve been all over the place the past few days. But never too busy to drop in at my favorite spot to chat. And not only do I have a new release, but I also contracted Just Right, a sexy contemporary coming soon to Liquid Silver Books.

If you haven’t joined OHK’s book tour yet, please visit to get the full schedule. Drop by any of the tour stops and leave a comment for a chance to win a $25 Amazon gift card. On 7/29, there will be an additional $10 gift card giveaway for my Birthday Celebration stops. (See the tour schedule for the blogs participating.)

Curious to know more about the book being hailed on Goodreads as “funny and sexy”? One Hot Knight tells the story of a dog groomer and a cursed knight, who just happens to have spent the last nine centuries as a dog. Here’s a sneak peek at my latest release….

“You want me, Regina. Admit it.”

Her gaze flickered to the side as if she were planning her escape route.

“Running won’t help you.” He took another determined step forward. “I want to kiss you. Touch you. Feel what it’s like to be inside you. And you may not want to tell me, but you want me just as much as I want you.”

“Your ego never ceases to amaze me. Is this what you told all your medieval women?” The words were clearly intended to turn him away.

“This doesn’t concern them.” The palm of his hand came to rest against her smooth, warm cheek. “It’s about you and me.”

Regina held her body away from him, yet her cheek nuzzled his palm. It was a small movement, but there nonetheless.

“Aren’t you curious?” Turning his hand, he slid the backs of his fingers down the side of her face to her neck, where he softly caressed the strand of hair that fell over one shoulder. “God knows I am.”

“Yves, we can’t.”

Frustration nearly made him curse. “Why not?”

“Because…” Her eyes shuttered. “Because you’re not the man for me.”

“How do you know?”

“For one thing, you’re from a completely different century.”

“That’s not a good enough reason. Keep trying.”

A hand against his chest tried to keep him away. “You were a dog for nine centuries.”

“Emphasis on was.”

Her lips quirked upward. “Do you have an answer for every argument?”

He nodded. “Yes. I want you, Regina. Nothing you can say will convince me we’re not right for each other.”

She put her other hand on his chest as well. Her energy was a wasted effort. She was no way near strong enough to hold him back. Not that he would use force, but he would have her. And even if it took all night or even the whole two weeks, he would convince her.

“You’re cursed and you have no idea how long you’ll be in human form.” The words tumbled out of her mouth like a waterfall.

He sighed. She had him there.

“Our taxi should be here at any minute.”

“Trying to change the subject?”

“No, just stating a fact. And—I need time. There is an attraction between us. I can’t deny it, but we’ve only known each other a few days and it’s been a weird couple of days. You’re the one who wanted to go out, so let’s do this.”

Time. It was the one thing he didn’t have.

One Hot Knight is now available at Amazon, B&N, and ARe.

Happy reading!

I’m Going on Tour, Baby!

Has it been two weeks already? Last time, I brought ya’ll the 1980’s-era Christy writing. In ten days, the heat is getting turned up. I’m giving you a sneak peek at my upcoming release and the book tour schedule. As you can see, I’ve been a very busy bee!

One Hot Knight is being released 7/22 by Entangled’s Covet Line. I haven’t been given leave to show off the cover yet, but here’ a little to whet your appetite.

Stupid curse!

Yves Sucat was a Crusader trapped in a canine body…until a beautiful twenty-first century dog groomer offered the missing link to break his spell. But Regina Patterson was no fluffy-headed female who would instantly melt at Yves’ silvery seduction. The more time he spent with the tender-hearted blonde, the less he was able to keep his paws—hands!—off of her.

Regina was much more comfortable with dogs than men, and the stunningly handsome – stunningly male – knight who now shared her apartment was no exception. She’d hoped to find a man as loyal as the pooches she pampered day after day, but would Yves’s broken curse end with her own broken heart?

Dying to know more? Then be sure to visit all the tour stops to get a glimpse of the HOT cover. As an added bonus, one winner will receive a $25 Amazon gift card. And to make it even sweeter, an additional $10 gift card will be given on any comments made during my birthday celebration. (Be sure to check the schedule to see which blogs are helping me celebrate turning…ahem…twenty-five. ; )
