Writing Fast

Three books in three months – never again

For 2017 I set some very lofty goals which included publishing books in January, February, and March.

I’ll never do that again!

Read FREE on Kindle Unlimited or BUY by clicking on the cover

I believe I write fairly fast, and now that my Dragon is trained, I write even faster. But this was crazy. January’s novella, Double Jeopardy, was written in December in between a week-long family vacation and the Christmas holidays. Being a novella, I can usually knock out 30,000 words in about fifteen days if I write every day. In December, there was no way I could write every day and still remain married and in the good graces of my adult children. (Someday the latter are going to pick my rest home.)

Read more about this book and the research behind the story by clicking on the cover

Before Double Jeopardy was published, I had moved on to deep rewrites of the first novel I ever published. Uncaged Love was published in February as the second full-length novel in my Black Swan series.

Resuing Melina-HighRes

Coming March 21 only on Amazon

Rescuing Melina will be available for sale on March 21. I am so thrilled to be able to write in Susan Stoker’s Special Forces: Operation Alpha Kindle World.

It’s been a crazy first quarter of 2017 and the second quarter looks to be almost as ridiculously busy.

Coming up next, look for the prequel to the Black Swan series. Although it will be out within the next sixty days, it doesn’t have a name or a cover yet. It will be given away FREE to everyone on my newsletter list, so if you aren’t there yet, please sign up here for my newsletter.

I have committed to writing a novella, once again part of the Guardian Elite series, in Elle James’ Kindle World. Also yet to be named, that book sits it second place in the queue because it will publish in June.

Before the end of the year, Black Swan Book #3 will be out as Grace and Griffin find themselves on the road to love. I guarantee there will be potholes and wrong turns. You will also see the final book in the Cancun series. It’s about time Levi met his match.

That’s a lot of writing in the next nine months. Perhaps I should just claim 2017 as my year of insanity.

How is your year going? Leave me a comment and some lucky winner will receive a surprise.

Tami Lund & Eminem, They’re Tight *In Her Mind*

Maybe I should clarify that title. I’m actually referring to the character Eminem played in the movie 8 Mile. Jimmy “B-Rabbit” Smith. Remember him? He was the poor white kid from Detroit who was going nowhere fast, despite his dreams of becoming a famous rapper.

So how are we so tight? Well, we have a few things in common. Okay, maybe only a very, very few things. Maybe two.

First, we both came from poor, single-parent households in Detroit. Okay, okay, in Michigan. I was actually raised in mid-Michigan, although it was an ethnically mixed, solidly blue-collar, factory town. And I lived in a trailer park for a minute when I was in sixth grade.

But I live in Detroit now. Okay, okay, in the ‘burbs. My version of Detroit involves the DIA, the Riverfront, The Whitney, the Renaissance Center, Eastern Market, Fox Theatre, Ford Field, and Tigers Stadium (okay, Comerica Park, but I’m plenty old enough to remember games at Tigers Stadium — not to mention Joe Lewis Arena, which isn’t going away like Tigers Stadium did, but it’s the last season the Red Wings will play there). How about Belle Isle, Hitsville USA, and the casinos? Oh, and Greektown and Mexicantown. Speaking of awesome restaurants, how about Roast, Punch Bowl Social, The Rathskeller? The list goes on, much like the beat…

Wait, I’ve completely digressed from the purpose of this post. I was trying to show you the connection I feel with Jimmy Smith from 8 Mile. It’s more than just our poor roots and undoubtedly shared favorable opinions about all those cool places in Detroit. (For the record, I have no idea if Jimmy, or Eminem for that matter, like any of those places I noted; I’m making a biased assumption based on the fact we all live in the Detroit area and take a bit of pride in our hometown.)

Anyway, what really helps me feel connected to Jimmy is … that award I won on October 8th, for my book, UNDERCOVER HEAT!!!

**Author pitch here: It’s a super awesome book about two broken people who are forced to figure out how to get along and then end up growing as individuals and having super steamy sex. Many times. So it’s practically the perfect romance novel. Just sayin’. **

Never have I felt so connected to Jimmy Smith as I did on the Monday after winning that Rone Award at the InD’Scribe Conference. (Read my funny blog post about what it was like to be a first time award winner here.)

We both, ultimately, won the award, reached the pinnacle… And then went back to work afterward. Work, as in the job that paid the bills, the one that had nothing whatsoever to do with those dreams floating around in our heads.

On that Monday morning, as I sat in my car, creeping my way through rush hour traffic, all I could think about was that scene in 8 Mile, when Jimmy wins (oops, spoiler alert!) and everybody’s celebrating, and for a minute, he’s king of the world….

And then the DJ tries to convince him to stay, to be a host at the club, and Jimmy says nah, I gotta get back to work. Not only does he need to continue to earn a steady paycheck, but he had asked a friend to cover his shift for him, and he couldn’t let that guy down, either. So altruistic, so brave, so deserving of that award. And someday, so big, so successful; finally breaking free of that poor, sometimes seemingly hopeless life.

Okay, we don’t quite yet have that in common. I mean, sure, I’ve moved beyond my poor roots, without a doubt, but I’m no Eminem.

Maybe someday.

Until then, I’ll smile every time I walk past that award on display in my dining room (deliberately, I might add), I’ll giggle every time my husband manages to work it into yet another seemingly unrelated conversation, and I’ll keep writing. And dreaming. Big dreams. Huge dreams.

I’m ready to lose myself.

The Problem with Puppies

Noel's Puppy PowerAs I write Noel’s Puppy Power, the antics of my own 7-month-old puppy, Little Bear, continue to appear.

2016-04-12 12.18.19

When Little Bear was about three months old, he and I visited the Granddoll and Favorite (only) Daughter. He destroyed the carpet in the guest bedroom.

2016-07-01 21.21.44We needed to go to Florida when Little Bear was six months old  so I discussed his carsickness problem with the vet. He gave us magic pills.  Or, maybe it was the fact we took the motorhome. I don’t care, he didn’t get sick and rode like a champ.

I personally love the weather in East Tennessee. It’s been in the 90’s lately so Bear prefers to spend his days inside with me while I write, face over top the register enjoying the air conditioning. The other day I heard a clunk. Then a clink. Followed by Little Bear’s clanking dog tags…but the sound wasn’t quite right. I found him in the bathroom, pawing at the floor register which was stuck on his dog tags, hanging around his neck like a huge prize.

Now that I’ve shared some of my dog stories, please COMMENT below with your puppy stories.

Noel’s Puppy Power by KaLyn Cooper

Tanner Hill is better at communicating with animals than women. That might be why he hasn’t had a second date in over two years. He’s also been extremely busy with his kennel that has become the premier training facility, specializing in supplying dogs to veterans suffering from Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder. Then again, there is this psychologist he can’t get out of his head, or his heart.

Dr. Bailey Conrad would never allow the loss of half her right leg to an IED in Iraq to stop her. Every day at the VA hospital, she sees patients who have lost so much more to the war effort. It’s her goal in life to help as many vets as possible to find a ‘new normal’, because she knows firsthand, it’s the internal scars that can be the most difficult to heal.

SEAL’s Christmas Dream by J.M. Madden

When Veterinarian Willow James’ office is broken into, it’s natural that she turn to her soul mate, former Navy SEAL K9 handler Joe Flynn, to track down the culprits. The trail leads to a notorious Pit-Bull fighting ring. It may take a Christmas miracle and a helpful nudge from an old partner to get everyone home safely.

Snowflake’s Gift by Lindsay McKenna

Two veterans—one human, one canine—have returned to Montana to recover from the traumas of war. About the Hot SEALs Kindle World

With years of dedication to the Navy, SEAL Jon Rudnick and his teammates have confirmed one thing – they are not afraid to risk life and limb for their country. But when navigating military red tape begins to present more challenges than the enemy, this band of combat-hardened veterans is divided. While some remain serving on Active Duty, others take their drive, skills, and expertise to the private sector, where they form GAPS (Guardian Angel Protection Services). In these roles, will the SEALs fight for the women they love with the same vigor they use to seek out enemy threats? Which battlefield will they face next?

Claimed by a SEAL by KaLyn Cooper

Claimed cover w KW logoThree years ago, Stacie Vandercoy was stuck undercover in Iraq for six months with Jeff “Rock Star” Lennon, the arrogant SEAL who thought he was God’s gift to women. But he couldn’t have her. Fraternization is against the rules. And still is as they infiltrate home-grown terrorism in Norfolk, Virginia. Can she continue to resist him? Does she have to?

Jeff Lennon had been forced to do things he didn’t like as a Navy SEAL, and now as an agent for the terrorist division of Homeland Security’s Border Patrol. For years, his only real regret has been what he couldn’t to do to Stacie back in Iraq. He’s been given another chance to claim her heart, body and soul. In the meantime, they have to stop a terrorist attack somewhere in the Norfolk area, during Fleet Week.

Even the agency’s psychologist isn’t sure Stacie can pull off pretending to be Jeff’s wife. What lengths will Stacie and Jeff go to assure the mission’s success? And what will they both lose in the process?

My SEAL Bodyguard by Paige Tyler

She writes about danger for a living and now she find herself in it. Only a Navy SEAL can save her.

When someone breaks into romance author Peyton Matthews’ Virginia Beach home to steal her newest manuscript, her publisher hires Noah Chase, a former Navy SEAL and the newest member of GAPS to be her bodyguard.

Peyton thinks the idea of needing a bodyguard is ridiculous, but she can’t help appreciating how gorgeous Noah is. And while she thought that having a stranger hanging around 24/7 would mess with her creativity, the Navy SEAL definitely comes in handy when she’s choreographing fight scenes. All that hand-to-hand action and rolling around on the floor with him gets her pulse racing, but while Noah is falling for Peyton too, he doesn’t act on it. He needs to keep his head in the game and focus on the job or he could end up getting her killed. She might not think she’s in danger, but his gut tells him differently.

The threat to Peyton is closer to home than she realizes however, and it will take all of Noah’s SEAL training to save her life.

 Darwin’s Evolution by Siobhan Muir

Sometimes retirement is a helluva lot of work…

Retired Marine Master Sergeant Sadie Hawkins is ready for a quiet life with her mother in northern Arizona. No more recon, no more shots fired. Hell, she might even give romance a try if she finds the right guy. Like the one asleep on her shoulder on the train.

Cyrus “Darwin” Finch retired from the Navy SEALs and now runs Ultimate Recon, a security, surveillance, and rescue company employing retired members of the four branches of the U.S. military. He’s on “forced” vacation and is supposed to relaxing, dammit. Until he meets Sadie.

When they discover a foreign enemy setting up a domestic retreat in Sadie’s backyard, romance and vacations take a backseat. There are no calm seas or clear skies with bullets flying, and no time for a Happy Ever After. But SEALs never give up and Marines never surrender.

In Washington, D.C., Chief Justice Thornhill is being threatened by a domestic terrorist group, and his granddaughter Charlotte is their target. Maryann Jordan

I have always been an avid reader. I joke that I “cut my romance teeth” on the old bodice ripper romance books. Last year I started a blog to showcase wonderful writers. In 2014, I finally gave in to the characters in my head pleading for their story to be told. Thus, Emma’s Home was created.

I work as a counselor in a high school and have been involved in education for the past 30 years.  I have been married to a wonderfully patient man for 32 years and have 2 adult, very supportive daughters.  When writing, my dog or one of my cats will usually be found in my lap!

Marissa Dobson

Born and raised in the Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania area, Marissa Dobson now resides about an hour from Washington, D.C. She’s a lady who likes to keep busy, and is always busy doing something. With two different college degrees, she believes you are never done learning.

Being the first daughter to an avid reader, this gave her the advantage of learning to read at a young age. Since learning to read she has always had her nose in a book. It wasn’t until she was a teenager that she started writing down the stories she came up with.

Marissa is blessed with a wonderful supportive husband, Thomas. He’s her other half and allows her to stay home and pursue her writing. He puts up with all her quirks and listens to her brainstorm in the middle of the night.

Her writing buddy Cameron (a cocker spaniel) is always around to listen to her bounce ideas off him. He might not be able to answer, but he’s helpful in their own ways.

Donna Michaels

It’s all my mother’s fault.

She read to me before I could read and opened up that magical world where I still reside today. Then came television and movies. Now I had three avenues that fed my imagination…and boy could I eat! As you no doubt figured out, this lead to my writing career. I’m a NY Times, USA Today, and Amazon Bestselling Award winning author. Phew, that was a mouthful! Multi-published in e-book and print with several publishers, I certainly have a ton of voices in my head.

I’m happily married to a military man for 28 years. We have four children and several rescued cats. Michael’s been in the Army National Guard since before he graduated. The Guard has been a part of our lives right from the start. It was only natural for the military to spill into my writing. God bless the military and their families. Thank you all for your sacrifices.

You already know my mom inspired my love of reading, but it was my dad who got me hooked on movies. Even now, if I had the time, I could happily go from one movie to another all day long. They are the reason I love mixed genre and why I can’t just stick to just one in my writing, although, as you can tell, I have a soft spot for cowboys and the military.

Well, that’s about it. Thanks for getting to know me a little better. Remember, keep reading to your children. The journey you’re igniting is precious. And the next time you’re at the movies, turn around. I just might be the person sitting behind you. No, not the one throwing popcorn (it’s too expensive to waste). I’m the one already imagining the sequel.

Have a great day and thanks for reading!

I’m writing this post the Saturday before Super Bowl Sunday. We’re having a few friends over to eat and watch the game. My husband and I each have distinct roles on the day before such events. I compulsively clean the house, while he does everything he can to ensure the party is really about his food, not some super potentially epic football game.

While I sweep and mop and dust and mull over whether there’s time to touch up the paint on the floorboards near the backdoor, he pours over his extensive recipe collection, trying to gauge what will both impress and please our guests. (I should note our “guests” are neighbors and dear friends who don’t care if our house is clean and would be happy if we ordered pizza, and are always thrilled with whatever he makes.)

Are you wondering what this has to do with my books? Well, it occurred to me that this scenario connects closely to my books. There’s an age-old question about what authors write: Is there something of yourself in your books?

The basic answer is yes, of course. Every author pours his or her heart and soul into her (we’re sticking with “her” because I’m, well, a her) books. The stories are plucked from our imaginations and with the help of a good editor, molded into something someone else might want to read.

But let’s go deeper. Is there really something of myself in my books? The answer is still yes. The Super Bowl scenario makes me think of my book, Delicious Deception, which is about a restaurant owner who wishes she could do something else with her life and a chef who wishes he could be famous for what he does. Let me break down all the ways this book is pulled directly from my life…

Delicious Deception.jpg

  1. It starts in Shreveport, Louisiana. I lived in Shreveport for eleven years. Went to high school there. And college. Met my best friend there. Have lots of friends there. Moved my husband there, early in our relationship. My dad currently still lives there (well, in Bossier City, which is right across the river). Shreveport is near and dear to my heart.
  2. It also starts in a casino. The casinos moved into Shreveport/Bossier City right around my twenty-first birthday. Yeah, I’ve been to the casinos a time or two.
  3. The story then moves into the bayous of Caddo Lake, and to a restaurant located on one of those bayous. In the book, the restaurant is called Louisiana Kitchen, but… In 2012, my family visited my dad down in Bossier City, and he took us for a boat ride on Caddo Lake. We launched the boat at the very boat launch referred to in the book, and we cruised up and down the same bayous Connor does in Delicious Deception (except we weren’t lost, like he was). We were all hungry—just like Connor—and happened by a large banner strung between two trees, facing the water, proclaiming “Delicious Louisiana Food.” We docked outside the reCaddo Lake_Uncertain Wine Glassstaurant and headed up the hill and had an incredibly enjoyable time eating hush puppies and calamari and fried shrimp and gumbo and all sorts of Louisiana-type fare. I drank wine while my dad and husband sampled locally brewed beer, and the kids marveled at the decorations and plaques with funny sayings tacked to the walls. The restaurant was called Uncertain General Store & Grill, and it was located in Uncertain, Texas, right on one of the bayous of Caddo Lake.

  4. There’s a sexy scene during which Connor is making chocolate molten cake, and Emily Kate walks into the kitchen. He offers her a sample of the batter and her response is, “It’s orgasmic.” Yes, yes, this has happened between my husband and me, although I refuse to acknowledge how accurate the rest of the scene is…

So yeah, I guess I do put a lot of myself in my books.

PS – Delicious Deception is on sale right now for only $1.99. Here’s the link: AMAZON

Molten Chocolate Cake with Candy Canes

1 1/4 sticks unsalted butter

Granulated sugar, for the ramekins

1/2 (6-ounce) bag semisweet chocolate chips

3 eggs

3 egg yolks

1 1/2 cups powdered sugar, plus a little more for dusting

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1/2 cup all-purpose flour

2 candy canes, smashed to bits

Special equipment: 6 ramekins or aluminum soufflé cups

Preheat the oven to 425 degrees F.

Melt 1/4 a stick of butter in a small saucepan over low heat. Paint the inside of 6 ramekins or aluminum souffle cups with butter. Coat the inside of each ramekin with granulated sugar. Reserve.

Put the remaining stick of butter and chocolate chips in a large mixing bowl. Set the bowl on a saucepan filled with about 1-inch of boiling water. Be sure that the bowl is not touching the water. Gently stir the butter and the chocolate together until melted and the mixture is smooth. Turn off the heat and reserve.

Combine the eggs, yolks, sugar and vanilla in the bowl of a stand mixer. (This can also be done with a hand beater.) Beat the egg mixture until it doubles in size, and gets very thick and very pale.

Gently whisk the melted chocolate and butter into the egg mixture. Remove the bowl from the mixer and gently stir in the flour. Pour the batter into the prepared ramekins. Arrange the ramekins on a baking sheet and bake in the preheated oven for 14 to 15 minutes. Remove the cakes from the oven and let rest for 3 to 4 minutes.

Remove the cakes from the ramekins, and arrange them on individual serving plates. Dust with powdered sugar and garnish with crushed candy cane.

Lightbearers For All!~by Tami Lund

It’s been a pretty crazy start to the new year, in so far as my writing is concerned. The writing itself has been sporadic, a few thousand words here and there, partially due to time constraints and partially because I can’t seem to settle down and focus on one book. Truthfully, though, the latter is probably a result of the former. And my personality. I admit, I’m easily distracted. I tend to use the hashtag #pinterestiscrack whenever I venture over to that fine example of social media, because I can literally get lost for hours. But then again, there is some seriously amazing inspiration over there… Wait, I digress.

So yeah, the New Year and my writing. Here’s why it’s been crazy—in a good way: Because I have a book–First Light–doing really well on Amazon right now. It’s free (for a limited time), so yeah, you would think that’s why. But I’ve listed my books for free on Amazon before and never, ever with such amazing results. As I type this post, it’s hovering around 200 on the “Free Best Seller” list (which, on a side note, always makes me laugh. Every time. “Free Best Seller”? Could there be a more accurate example of an oxymoron??)

It seems people are noticing this book. That’s super exciting to me because it’s the start of a paranormal series that’s one of my favorites of everything I’ve written. (Don’t tell my other books.) I love the characters, I love the world I’ve built, I love the setup for more and more and more. If you’ve read this series, whatever you think is going to happen, you’re probably way off base—but that’s good. That makes it more exciting—right??

For those who haven’t read the series, I encourage you to start now, before the free promotion ends (although, when it does, the prequel will only be 99 cents, which is still a deal for starting a series with four books already published and ready to read). First Light is available pretty much everywhere, but here’s the Amazon link: http://www.amazon.com/First-Light-Lightbearer-Tami-Lund-ebook/dp/B018N6RWRG/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1454161160&sr=8-1&keywords=tami+lund

Lovely Woman Posing With a Wolf

First Light takes place in 1512, in Mesoamerica, which is modern day central Mexico. Lightbearers have magic, and shapeshifters believe they can steal said magic if they kill the Lightbearers. Consequently, the two species are mortal enemies.

When Sabine, an errant Lightbearer who hasn’t yet found her magical niche, comes across a shifter and decides she isn’t ready to die, she manages to conjure a sword out of thin air. The shifter, Xander, is impressed despite himself and instead of killing her, he runs away. When Sabine returns safely to the Lightbearer’s coterie to tell her tale, she has to face the king, James, who isn’t nearly as upset with her as she expected, if you know what I mean (cue cheesy porn music—not that the book is pornographic, but whenever someone is trying to hint at a bit of sexual tension, that cheesy porn music always seems to play in the back of my head).

Into the Light picks up 500 years later, and starts the rest of the series. It takes place in modern times, in the Lightbearer’s magical hidden coterie, which has been moved to western Michigan, on the shore of Lake Michigan. The Lightbearers have been living in peace these past 500 years, tucked away from the shifters, going about their private, quiet existence—until their princess decides to sneak out of the coterie for a little fun in Vegas. Except she bumps into a few shapeshifters, and they end up capturing her and taking her to their pack master, who believes those old tales about killing Lightbearers to gain their magic. That’s when the pack master’s estranged son, Tanner, steps in and rescues Olivia, the Lightbearer princess. He vows to return her safely to her coterie, but of course sparks of the forbidden kind fly, and by the time they arrive and he’s supposed to deposit her with her parents, the king and queen, the last thing he wants to do is give her up. But there’s a twist he didn’t see coming, and he might have to give her up anyway…

Dawning of Light CoverThe next book in the series is Dawning of Light. This one focuses on Finn, a shifter Tanner has brought with him to the coterie, and Cecilia, Princess Olivia’s cousin. Cecilia doesn’t like to follow the rules, and she’s forever putting herself into potentially dangerous situations as a result. Finn gets assigned to essentially be her bodyguard, which leads to all sorts of funny, sexual tension moments between these two, neither of whom wants to admit they like the other. Oh, and by the way, Cecilia really is in danger, and the threat comes from the last place you would imagine.

LightBeyondDarkness_CoverLight Beyond the Darkness is the next book in the series. This one takes us to Chicago, where Lightbearer Carley, once the king’s favorite chef, is hiding out amongst the humans. Turns out, her mate was abusing her, and she couldn’t take it anymore, so she ran away. She thought she was safe, living as a human, cooking at one of Chicago’s top restaurants, and probably, she would have been, had a shifter named Reid not stopped at her restaurant to have the best steak of his life. Reid, unlike most shifters, isn’t living in a pack, and he has plenty of skeletons and issues of his own. In typical obsessive shifter style, Reid decides he wants Carley, and sets about courting her until she can’t resist sampling what he’s offering. Life’s pretty fantastic until Reid finds out his brother, Finn, lives in the coterie from which Carley ran away. Now, he wants to go back, to reconnect with his brother, and Carley’s in a tough spot because she hasn’t exactly been forthcoming about the fact that she’s mated to someone else.

changeinthelightChange in the Light is the most recent installment of the Lightbearer series, and this one takes us out of the coterie, to the Detroit shifter pack, where pack master Josh is trying to keep his pack together after his parents’ unexpected death. When he meets Rachel, he’s immediately smitten. Problem is, she’s human, so therefore should be untouchable, but Josh can’t resist her charms, and they fall into a steamy affair that he has no intention of ending. Except for two things: one, Rachel’s using him—she was forced to seduce him in exchange for her own life, and even though she’s now falling for him, she can’t figure out a way out of the situation; and two, shapeshifters and humans aren’t supposed to be together. Humans aren’t supposed to know about the magical world in which shifters live. Looks like they’re both lying to each other—and themselves.

Now, while you work on reading those books, I’ll work on shoring up the next installment, which, by the way, introduces a brand new magical being. Yeah, it just keeps getting better!

Another Day, Another Year, Another Post

It’s a new year, and here’s a new post to go along with it. I’m still writing, still editing, and the stories in my head are still far too plentiful for the amount of time I have to get them transferred to the computer. Not much has changed, really.

Books and Coffee

The husband wants to take down the Christmas tree already (I know, many of you just blurted, “already!?”) but I’m not quite ready to give up the colors and beauty of the holidays, even if it does mean my living room will feel as though it has doubled in size. (We cut down a big tree this year.)

This morning, I ran the coffee pot without the carafe in the holder (okay, that was a new one for me!), and had to spend twenty minutes cleaning up my mess before I could brew a new pot. Luckily I’ve cut down my coffee intake lately, so I was able to do this without losing my ever-loving mind. And no, cutting back is not by my choice; it’s my doctor’s. And it’s the creamer she wants me to reduce, not the coffee itself, but I just cannot figure out how to stomach the stuff without a little bit of sugar and cream.

And amidst all this, I will practically release a book a week for a month. This little trend began on December 27, when I released the prequel to my Lightbearer series, First Light. That one was followed by the release of the fourth book in the series, Change in the Light, on Monday, January 4. If you’re into paranormal, magic, shapeshifters, the fae, or any combination of the above, you’ll probably love this series, and you should give it a try. First Light, the prequel, is on sale this week for 99 cents.

The next release is next Monday, and although it isn’t technically a new book for me, one of my full-length novels (Delicious Deception) is going to be included in a box set. The boxed set is called Appetite for Love, and will contain seven full-length novels, all surrounding food and romance, and all for the insane price of 99 cents.

Appetite For Love_Crimson Cover

After that, I skip a week, and then on January 25 (right after my Birthday, which is January 23), I have another release, another box set containing another full-length novel. This one is Undercover Heat (which I admit, is one of my fave of all my books), and the box set is called The Boys in Blue. Ten full-length cop novels for-again-the insane price of 99 cents. Do I sound like a used car salesman? Sorry, but wow, that’s a crazy deal.

Boys in Blue Cover_Updated

After that, my next release is in May, when the second in my Twisted Fate series is scheduled for release. The book is tentatively titled Prim and Proper Fate. If you haven’t started that series, it’s about warring shapeshifters and these guys called Fates, which are sort of like guardian angels, except they haven’t done their jobs very well for the past 500 years. It’s completely unrelated to the Lightbearer series. Whereas in the Lightbearer series the shifters can change into the form of pretty much any warm-blooded animal, the shapeshifters in the Twisted Fate series shift into a dog-like creature that sort of resembles a really big and scary bull mastiff. The first book in the three-part series is called Of Love and Darkness, if you want to give that one a try. The third and final book is in rough draft form at the moment; I suppose I need to carve time to firm it up and get it over to the publisher, so those of you who get addicted to the characters will have closure at some point.

Anyway, also in the works is the fourth in the Tough Love series, which is currently titled Exposed Intent. The Tough Love series is about men and women in tough careers who sometimes need a little help finding their happily ever afters. In Exposed Intent, Marjory, Connor’s sister and a professional photographer, butts heads with not only Greg, a local cop, but also a stalker, who Greg’s trying to protect her from. Connor is the hero from Delicious Deception. (Remember, Appetite for Love box set, 99 cents?)

I’m also working on the fourth in the Lightbearer series. For those who are already immersed in Change in the Light, which came out on Monday, the next one focuses on Josh’s cousin and beta, Matt Tigre. It also introduces a new magical being. I call them Cupids. You didn’t really think the entire series would solely focus on shapeshifters and Lightbearers, did you? I have eleven books plotted out in this series so far, so yeah, I had to expand a little.

And lastly, I’ve been slightly obsessively (okay, completely obsessively) working on a brand new book that has nothing to do with anything I’ve put out so far. It’s fantasy, and it’s darker than what I’ve ever done before. It’s pretty intense, and I’m only working on the first draft. It will be a while before this one sees the light of day, but if you’re curious, you can check out the first chapter on my website, www.tamilund.com.

Yeah, so, like I said, not much has changed from 2015 to 2016. That’s not necessarily a bad thing, though. Because honestly, 2015 wasn’t such a bad year, and if I can make 2016 that much and more, I’ll consider it a success.

A Shifter And A Lightbearer Walk Into A Bar…

Have you heard that one? What? No? You mean you haven’t read Into the Light, the first in the Lightbearer series? What the heck are you waiting for?

Wait, hang on, don’t start yet. Into the Light is no longer the first. That’s right. I’ve written a prequel, a novella that takes place about 500 years before the Lightbearer series picks up, right here in the 21st century.

Beautiful Woman Posing With a Wolf Outdoors

It’s called First Light, and it features Sabine, James, and Zander. Sabine is a Lightbearer who can’t seem to do a damn thing right, James is the King of the Lightbearers, and Zander is the shifter who didn’t kill Sabine when he had the chance. Does it sound like the perfect setup for a love triangle? You aren’t far from reality with that one.

Before we get into any more detail, here’s a quick synopsis of the rest of the series (you know, in case you want to check them out, too):

Template to be used to assemble cover art for Liquid Silver Books. It was created in PhotoShop CS6.

Lightbearer #1 – Into the Light
Shifters and Lightbearers. Mortal enemies. Until the day shifter Tanner Lyons rescues Lightbearer princess Olivia Bennett from his own father, who intended to kill her to steal her magic. Now, instead of wanting to kill her, Tanner wants, well, let’s say his intentions are anything but pure.

Dawning of Light Cover
Lightbearer #2 – Dawning of Light
Finnegan Hennigan’s job is to protect Lightbearer Cecilia Druthers, often from herself. But Cecilia doesn’t want to be protected. Not even when is becomes apparent someone wants her dead. Good thing her protector is persistent. Oh, and he’s hot, too, which makes it damn hard for her to stay away from him, like she keeps insisting she wants to do…

Lightbearer #3 – Light Beyond the Darkness
Carley Santiago ran away from the Lightbearer coterie to escape an abusive LightBeyondDarkness_Coverrelationship. When she stumbles upon a shifter in the middle of a crowded human city, she doesn’t know whether to run away – or into his arms. Lucky for readers, the second option is far too tempting to resist.

Lightbearer #4 (which releases on 1/4/2016) – Change in the Light
Rachel Whitaker is supposed to distract shapeshifter Josh Tigre so his enemy can take him down. But she doesn’t know he’s not human. Oh, and she’s starting to fall for the guy she’s supposed to help destroy. This can’t possibly end well. Can it?changeinthelight

Like what you’ve read so far? Tempted to start one-clicking? Well, go ahead, don’t let me stop you! Oh, wait, that’s not why I’m here, writing this blog post. I’m doing this because I want to give you a Christmas present. That’s right – a free book! But you gotta download it before Christmas, because as of December 27, it releases, and then it costs $1.99. A good deal to start a pretty cool paranormal series, but still. Can’t beat free. Right? So get to it. Here’s the link, to download First Light, FREE, only until Christmas: START READING.

Oh, and if you like it, I hope you’ll leave a review to let me know. And don’t forget to grab the rest of the books in the series. They’re all available on your favorite e-book retail sites.

Happy Holidays!

A Shapeshifter and Lightbearer Talk Christmas Wish Lists

Olivia Bennet, Lightbearer Princess

Hello there. My name is Olivia Bennett, and my author, Tami Lund, asked me to take over the Love, Lust, and Laptops blog today. I’m supposed to tell you all what I want for Christmas. Oh, and she clarified that it shouldn’t necessarily be material items. She wants me to tell you what I desire for Christmas.

This is a little embarrassing, because my desires aren’t exactly, um, pure. Especially now that I’ve met Tanner Lyons. You see, he’s a shapeshifter, and I’m a Lightbearer, and we’ve been arch enemies since the Lightbearers moved to this world and the shifters became convinced they could steal our magic by killing us.

Except Tanner doesn’t want to kill me. I’m pretty sure I know what he wants to do with me, and I am woman enough to admit I want it, too. He’s so sexy, all dark and scruffy and tall. Those arms, those abs… I saw him without his shirt recently, and he has these two muscles over his hips that disappear into the waistband of his jeans, like a V. It was all I could do not to push him back onto the couch and lick my way along those muscles, all the way into his jeans. I’ve never been quite so aggressive before, but hot damn, he brings out the inner hussy in me.

I don’t care that we aren’t supposed to be together. I don’t care that we aren’t even the same species, that I’m supposed to hate him and he’s supposed to want to kill me. I don’t care that I have obligations due to my status as the princess of the Lightbearers, and those responsibilities certainly do not include a sexy shapeshifter.

I don’t care. I just don’t care. All I want for Christmas is Tanner Lyons.

A shifter attracted to a lightbearer? Social Media Promo

Tanner Lyons, shapeshifter

Shit, I haven’t thought about Christmas in years. I left my pack ten years ago, when I was barely twenty years old, and I’ve been on my own ever since. Usually, I spend Christmas alone, sitting in whatever apartment or long-term motel I happen to be living in at the moment. I usually have a twelve-pack of decent beer or a quality bourbon to keep me company. And then I get up the next day and do the same damn thing all over again. All I’ve ever wanted for Christmas was to stay the hell away from my father, to avoid becoming him one day.

Until the last time he found me and convinced me to return to the pack. I shouldn’t have gone, but he had physical proof that the Lightbearers really do exist. You see, my father has spent his entire life searching for those elusive magical creatures. He’s convinced the old stories, the urban legends, are true. That to kill a Lightbearer is to inherit her magic. Problem is, you have to find one, first, and no one’s seen one in five hundred years. Most of us assumed they’d gone extinct. But not my father. He can be pretty damn focused and single-minded, and determined as hell, when he wants to be.

And he was right. They do exist. In the form of a delicate yet strong blonde waif of a female, in a torn dress and with sticks and leaves in her hair, curled up in the corner of a cell in my father’s basement. Not only do they exist, but they’re gorgeous, at least this one is. And something about her calls to me. I don’t know what, because God knows she’s not giving me a damn thing when I try to talk to her, but that doesn’t even matter.

I gotta save this woman. And then I gotta have her. I don’t give a rat’s ass that she’s not a shifter or that I’m supposed to want to kill her or that she has magic I could steal, if I could just figure out how. I don’t care. I just want Olivia. Might even want to mate with her.

So, for the first time in ten years, I actually want something for Christmas. And I guess what I want is Olivia Bennett. Nothing like going for broke, huh?

Paw Print Rhinestone Bracelet

Tanner and Olivia are the hero and heroine from Into the Light, the first book in the Lightbearer series. Here’s what the book is about:

They were supposed to be enemies, not lovers. Tanner Lyons is a shifter without a pack, which is just the way he likes it—until he rescues Olivia Bennett, princess of the Lightbearers. Suddenly, he finds himself fighting an attraction that makes no sense, because Lightbearers and shifters have been mortal enemies since the beginning of time. Intrigue, adventure, magic, and passion – you’ll find it all in Into the Light, Book 1 of Tami Lund’s exciting new fantasy series, Lightbearer.

Not Me by Lynn Lorenz

First, let me say there is no defense for plagiarism. It doesn’t just happen. You don’t accidentally take someone’s story and change the names and pronouns, switch a few sentences around, and then say, “Oops! Did I do that?” I’m pretty damn sure my laptop doesn’t have a F key for that.

No. All you can expect to hear are excuses, or what some might hope are reasons. When you say reasons, it makes it sound as if they are valid. Reasons are just excuses disguised in fake rational. There is only one basic reason to plagiarize someone’s work, and that’s to make money. And like so many bad things, money is usually the cause, or the reason. Lack of. Need for. I wish we all had great sales, then maybe such crimes wouldn’t exist. And in a tightening market, does it really surprise us that someone would do this?

See? Excuses.

What is the real answer? Why would someone do this? Why risk your good name, your reputation as a writer, the only thing we really have, to make some money? Hundreds? Thousands? Is any amount worth damaging your reputation? Destroying your career?

I can’t understand it. I couldn’t understand it, when in my corporate job, we were asked every year to sign a document saying we’d never taken bribes, or received gifts from companies, like Christmas hams or tickets to football games. Or failed to report them if we were offered them.
I thought, who would risk a steady job, good pay, and the respect of their co-workers for seats on the 50 yard line? I sure as hell wouldn’t. I figured it’d be my luck to get caught on the JumboTron, with that ham in my lap. I needed my salary, my health benefits, my friends’ respect. But someone must have, since there is this document. Someone, somewhere, broke the rules, and now we all had to stand up and say, “Not me.”

And fuck, it’s this. This is why it hurts other authors. Why it taints all of us, even if you didn’t co-write a book with her or even know her. Because on Facebook, I’ve witnessed a rash of authors stating, “Not me.” Of writers “signing” the document. It’s the horrible need that those of us who didn’t take the easy way out, who struggle every day to create characters and stories, must now assure everyone we know that we didn’t cheat.

Not me.

Of distancing ourselves, and our reputations, from the offender. Of taking that big step back and leaving that person standing alone, like the old comedy routine of the reluctant volunteer.

Only no one stepped back. This person stepped forward, out of the line. Intentionally. Made a choice as she sat in front of her computer to step over the line, no matter what her “reasons”.

Now, I see posts about readers who have doubts about all of this person’s books. Of returning them. Asking for their money back. Of deleting them.

And I wonder if my readers are doubting me. Doubting others. Doubting all of us authors. And that hurts me. It hurts all of us.

It sucks the big one.

But as much as I hate this, I understand how they feel, because they’ve been betrayed. Cheated. Insulted.

I have a copy of the Deuce book. It’s the only book by her I own. I think it cost me a few bucks. Do I want my money back? No. Not worth the email, for me.

I think, instead, I’ll keep it, right there on my Kindle. To remind me, every time I scroll past it, that there are some things more precious to me than a few bucks.

Like my reputation.

There’s nothing like the thrill of writing the last sentence in a manuscript. For me, once a tale’s in my head I have to finish it. Yesterday, I completed Prymal Passion and submitted the book to my editor.

I’m dying to get the cover, but since I don’t have that, I thought to share a teaser with you today.

Prymal Passion – Unedited Excerpt
A cowboy, complete with Stetson, boots, and lethal silver-wheel spurs swung out of the driver’s seat. He reminded her of Brad Pitt in Legends of the Fall, only prettier. Eyes the turquoise of a tropical lagoon shimmered in the gloominess.

His spurs jangled when he ambled over to them. He tipped his hat, lifted a square chin, and inspected Kata and Natusya. A crooked smile deepened twin dimples. The cowboy’s incredible handsomeness combined with that mouth-watering grin and those mesmerizing eyes had her dumbfounded.

She reminded herself to be afraid.

“Ain’t that just your fricking Irish luck, Bandit? You go a-hunting vermin and catch a modern-day Madonna and her angel-child?”

A stiff crosswind chased dirt, rubble, and tumbleweeds across the gulley. The moon reappeared and Kata choked back a gasp when she saw him, Bandit, clearly. Mother Mary, he looked like a Highlander bandit, with those craggy features, and piercing eyes of a hue too midnight and navy to be real. He had inky eyelashes too long and curly to belong to a man. She stared at his full, sensuous mouth and had the stupid urge to tongue-tickle the seam of his lips.

Kata shook her head. She had gone bat shit crazy, or maybe Alzheimer’s really was contagious.

Bandit snorted. “Madonna? More she-devil. Little witch took a shot at me, stabbed me with a puny dagger, and bit my ear.”

Her temper went ballistic, she shouted, “Where’s the blood? I know I tasted blood. And I know got you in the shoulder with my penknife.”

Natusya reacted to her barked question and growled statements with a yelp and a drumming of her heels on Kata’s belly and butt. Kata rocked back and forth on her heels, and murmured, “Hush manYUnya.”

“Russian?” the cowboy asked.

“Ukrainian, the equivalent of hush little one. Contain your tantrum, Kata. You’re upsetting your daughter. Keep an eye on ‘em, Kydd. Kata’s stashed her and the baby’s stuff on the ridge. I’ll be back in a few.” Bandit dusted his hands, crouched a tad, and leapt.

Kata’s jaw sagged.

Natusya, now wide awake and curious, giggled. “Fly. Fly like he. Mama.”

“Oops. Pretend you didn’t see that, honey. It’s the wolf and lion in him.” Kydd tipped the brim of his hat. “Don’t believe we’ve been properly introduced. I’m Kydd Kolton.”

He had such an engaging grin that Kata couldn’t help smiling at him. “That’s an unusual name. It sounds kind of familiar. And you look familiar, too.”

She had entered loony land, or trespassed into some sort of alternate reality, where she and Natusya had just become prisoners of a cowboy charmer and a man who leapt like a mountain lion. Right now she should be panicking, or screaming, or running for her life, not simply standing there catching files with her open mouth.

“Do you go to the movies, Kata?”

Oh yeah. Her brain cells had fried to cinders. “Yes.”

When he removed his hat and dragged a hand through his tousled shoulder-length hair, a vague memory stirred. “You’re Kydd Kolton. You’re in those car movies. What was the name of the last one?”

“Kolton Krazy.” A deep slash of scarlet stained his bronzed cheeks.

All at once Bandit landed in a thud of dust and rocks right in front of Kata. One minute he wasn’t there, the next he was. He had to have jumped from the ridge above them. She swallowed around the huge fright marble clogging her throat. No normal human being could make that jump without fracturing a bone. Had she found the Wylfen Britta’d told her about?

“What’re you going to do to us?” She hated the reedy sound of her voice.

“Take you home. Get some food into the both of you, and then let you rest.” Bandit stuffed her duffel bag and her two backpacks into a narrow storage area in the back of the ATV.

“I’m not going anywhere with either of you.” She dug her heels into the loose gravel.

“Suit yourself. But that baby’s coming with us. We’ll call children’s services, and turn her over to them—”

“No way.” She cuddled Natusya tighter and the girl cried out.

“The temperature’s dipping into the low fifties tonight. We can’t in good conscience leave you two out here. Now, you’ve recognized me, right? Here, take my cell, call someone, and tell them we’re taking you and your daughter to this address, 12480 Bright Trail, Trenton, California. Tell them you’re with me. Bandit here will take a pic of us, and you can send it to your friend. Or if you want, we can drop you to a hotel. Gotta tell you though, nearest one is a good forty minute drive away and it’s not in a great area.” Kydd Kolton tapped his Stetson against his jean-clad thigh.

Kata chewed the insides of her cheeks. She couldn’t risk going to a hotel in the middle of the night and attracting unwanted attention.

“Here.” Bandit offered her the pistol she’d shot earlier. “Take it as insurance.”

“Show her your trident,” Kydd suggested.

“What?” Kata became more confused by the second. A trident, like the devil’s?

“Bandit’s a Navy SEAL. I can see from your expression you know what a SEAL is. We’re the good guys, Kata.” Kydd flipped his hat from one hand to the other.

Bandit’s earlier statement about frogmen and lungs suddenly made sense. And what had Kydd said? Pretend you didn’t see that. It’s the wolf and lion in him.

All at once Kata knew—she was one step closer to sanctuary. Either that, or she’d found hell in the form of two devils.

Hope you enjoyed!
